Saving a Screenshot of the map
Having a map in an image format allows the user to include the
map to be included in documents, shared via email, or posted to a web site.
To Screenshot the map
- Zoom or pan the map to the area you wish to screenshot.
- Press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard to capture an image.
-
Once you press "Print Screen" an image of the screen is captured, kind of
like a Polaroid picture, and then held in the clipboard. Keep in mind the
clipboard can hold only one item at a time, so unless something is done
with the image, it will be overwritten the next time the "Print Screen"
key or the cut and copy Edit menu options are used.

To Create a Image of the Map:
To view the screen image and save it as an image, it needs to be
pasted into a image document. The best way to do this is to use
Windows Paint or another graphics program such as IrfanView
(free) or Adobe Photoshop (license required).
When Paint is opened (under Start, Programs, Accessories),
it starts with a blank document. Just select Paste from the Edit
menu, and then the screen image will be moved from the clipboard
to the open document. Since the screenshot captures your entire
screen, you will need to "crop" the image to only include the map
and not all the rest of the browser menus and application. To do
this, find the part you want to save. You may have to scroll
around to get it, especially if your screen resolution is high.
Next, click on the Select tool on the toolbar (looks like a
dotted-line box). Then, click and hold on a corner of your
desired area and drag the box out and across to the opposite corner
selecting only what you want to keep. If the selection box wasn't
set just right, click once to take away the box, and move and
click to start over. When you've got what you want selected,
copy it using Copy from the "Edit" menu. Next, go to "File" and
open a new document and use "Edit, Paste" and your cropped image
should show up in your new Paint document. Finally save this
image making sure to select JPG or PNG as your output file type.
Please note, we ask that the "Boone County Assessor's Office"
text in the lower left of the map remain on any screenshots.

To Include Map in a Document:
To insert the screen image into a Word Document or similar report,
it needs to be pasted into the document. Once the image is in the
document, use the Picture Tools's Crop Tool to crop the image to
only show the map and not all the rest of the browser menus and application.
